King Slaff – Testament Remixes [VIRANET03]

8-Bit & Chiptune, Broken Beat, Dubstep & Garage // By: Markus // 13/04/2011 // 1 Comment
Testament_cover

Been a while since the last Viranet release but luckily there is a new one called “Testament Remixes” by King Slaff. This EP is based on a release the London-based producer has published in 2008 on Echodub. The original track is a more minimal sounding Dubstep tune with a heavy punching baseline and some reduced melody layers on top. The “Mekha Rework” plays around with some wide layers and a generally more uplifting atmosphere. “Kupa Tropical Bleeps Mix” shifts the tune into an 8-Bit Dubstep world where shuffling hi-hats and typical arcade sounds live together.  The last tune on this EP “Mock The Zuma Mix” picks up the “Testament” chords to embed them in a more classic dub-flavoured world. Yet another fresh release on Viranet. Looking forward to more! [MS]

Cosmiq – Human Nature

8-Bit & Chiptune, Ambient & Experimental, Drum & Bass, Electronika, TechHouse // By: Netlabelism // 09/04/2011 // No Comments
v5_front_big

Cosmiq is a Dutch hardware synthesizer enthusiast who has been making music since the good old Amiga tracking days. He presents us his fifth album “Human Nature” on his homepage, without a label in the background (yet). Being known and active in the demo scene, Cosmiq takes part in demo parties such as “Breakpoint” regularly and contributes to music competitions successfully. This affinity worked up in certain songs like “Demomuziek” or “The last Breakpoint”. You can hear this influence shining through the entire album. Especially when you focus on the perfectly arranged, wonderful melodies or when you explore the typical incredible warm sounds here and there. Take such as my favorites “Maa loot” based on chipsounds or “Elles dee”. Furthermore, in some tracks these attributes are mixed with very inventive and diversified beat arrangements, like in “Encrypted”, which has brilliant filtered hiss sounds as bass line support.

If you try to classify this album, it will take you some time. For me, it is an original mixture between demo style at its best and the palette of modern electronical styles. Wherever you may put it, this album is a treasure chest filled up with excellent produced tracks. [TG]

This little three-track EP is quite a treat. The inexplicably-named ‘Moron’ graciously grants us an insight into his deep and inviting stance on the quirky world of post-dubstep.
